Before Christmas the Methodist people of Sheffield sent gifts of clothes and school resources to the people of Asebu. In this small way we expressed our belonging to each other and sharing the rich resources that we are able to enjoy and often taken for granted.
Going back to these wonderful people I know will enrich my life and serves as a reminder that being a follower of Jesus is not restricted to one country or culture. If only we could all have the attitude that as in the words of John Wesley 'the world is our parish' and that it might influence our country. This becomes so important as we vote in a general election. The Kingdom of God brings an amazing generosity and knowledge that we belong to each other. This leads to a just sharing of the worlds resources, and it wonderful to see how in response to the Nepal Earthquake millions of pounds have already been given.
I wonder who you will vote for while I am away at Cape Coast, Ghana. A precious vote to be used with wisdom. For me as a disciple of Jesus it has to be for those who are more concerned about peace making than war, about enabling all to access our amazing health care system, of giving all children access to a well resourced education and not its fragmentation, of offering hospitality to those fleeing desperate situations, of being more concerned about mercy and rehabilitation than punishment, of having less so all can have something.
I know I will meet people again, and they will have so little, yet they are rich in a way that only those who live on the edge can be.
So I begin my journey today to Heathrow. Keep following and share with me the experience.
