Church Meetings

So I travel all the way to Ghana only to find myself sitting in a church meeting on a beautiful day. Ministers and circuit stewards had been called to meet at the Cathederal Church in  Cape Coast. It was chaired by the Bishop , started with communion and then looking at a problem caused by mismanagement that has created a debt in their involvement in education across the whole country.

So a bit ironic having left the Shefield  circuit working out our generous giving policy. And here I am listening to the same issues, except it looks like  the poor will have to make up for the mistakes of the wealthy. Bit like the UK suffering for the fault of financial services getting us all into debt. Strangely how those who caused the problem don't carry the burden.

Thankfully I had to leave for part of the meeting to help collect the children from school so a driver was called to take me there and back. I can't see that catching on in British Methodism!
On my return I had to be welcomed to the gathering and introduced to the Bishop. Its amazing the sense of deference they show which must explain why the meeting didn't complain about what was being proposed. It was good to see a few familiar faces who had been involved in the camp meeting two years ago.
So all over Ghana congregations are being told what they need to pay. This is going to be tough for Asebu Methodist Church, an extra £500 to be found before the end of the month on top of normal costs and their scheme. It will call for sacrificial giving.
